Some bottles are memorable because of what’s in the glass. Others are memorable because of the occasion. This Piper-Heidsieck Cuvée Brut will always be one I’ll remember for both reasons.

After officially completing the legal part of our wedding, it was time to celebrate with our closest family before the big celebrations in Ibiza. The sun was shining, everyone was in great spirits and there really wasn’t a more fitting way to mark the occasion than opening a bottle of Champagne.
In the Glass
From the very first nose I was greeted with lovely brioche notes, giving the wine an inviting richness before I’d even taken a sip.
On the palate it was wonderfully fresh, with crisp green apple taking centre stage alongside bright citrus that kept everything lively and refreshing. The fruit was clean and vibrant, while those brioche notes followed through beautifully to add depth and complexity without ever feeling heavy.
It strikes a lovely balance between freshness and richness, making every glass incredibly easy to enjoy.
Approachable Champagne
Piper-Heidsieck has built its reputation on producing approachable yet characterful Champagne, and this bottle perfectly demonstrates why.
The crisp orchard fruit provides plenty of freshness, while the brioche character reflects the time spent ageing on its lees, adding those classic bakery notes that Champagne lovers look for. Everything feels well integrated, with no single element overpowering another.
It’s expressive without being overcomplicated, making it equally enjoyable whether you’re simply celebrating or taking the time to appreciate what’s in the glass.
Value for Money
There are plenty of non-vintage Champagnes competing for attention, but Piper-Heidsieck continues to offer excellent value for the quality in the bottle.
It delivers the freshness, complexity and finesse you’d expect from a respected Champagne house while remaining accessible enough to open whenever the occasion calls for it.
Final Thoughts
The best wines often become intertwined with life’s biggest moments, and this bottle will always remind me of the day Liv and I officially became husband and wife.
Sharing it with family in the sunshine made the experience even more special, but even setting the occasion aside, this is a Champagne I’d happily buy again. The combination of crisp green apple, bright citrus and those lovely brioche notes makes it a fantastic all-round non-vintage Champagne that never loses sight of elegance.
