There are some bottles you remember because they are exceptional, and there are others you remember because of the moment. This one happens to be both.

After officially completing the legal part of our wedding, it was time to celebrate with family in the garden. We had already enjoyed a bottle of Piper Heidsieck to mark the occasion, but this Taittinger Brut Réserve carried us through the afternoon and felt like the perfect way to toast the start of our wedding celebrations before Ibiza.

In the Glass

Straight away the freshness stood out. Crisp green apple led the way, backed by bright citrus that gave the wine plenty of energy. It has that unmistakable Champagne character where the fruit is fresh rather than sweet, making every sip feel lively and refreshing.

As it opened up, those classic autolytic notes started to appear. Toasty biscuit rather than heavy brioche, adding just enough richness without taking away from the wine’s elegance. The balance is superb, with the fruit and those savoury pastry notes sitting comfortably alongside one another.

Restraint

What I enjoy about Taittinger is its restraint. Some non vintage Champagnes can lean heavily into richness and become quite broad, but this stays refined from start to finish.

The crisp apple and citrus are always at the forefront, while the biscuit character provides texture rather than dominating the palate. It feels precise, elegant and incredibly easy to drink, yet there’s enough complexity to keep you coming back for another sip.

This is a Champagne that reminds you why the region has such an incredible reputation. It doesn’t need to shout to make an impression.

Value for Money

There are plenty of non vintage Champagnes available today, but Taittinger Brut Réserve continues to justify its place amongst the best of the large Champagne houses.

It delivers everything you expect from quality Champagne. Fresh fruit, fine balance, subtle complexity and enough finesse to make any occasion feel special.

Final Thoughts

Wine is often about far more than what’s in the glass. The memories attached to a bottle can be just as important as the tasting notes themselves.

This will always be the Champagne that marked the day Liv and I officially became husband and wife. Sitting in the sunshine with family, celebrating such an important milestone, the crisp apple, citrus and toasty biscuit notes somehow tasted even better because of the occasion.

Would I buy it again? Without hesitation.

Rating: 93/100

A beautifully balanced Champagne that combines freshness, finesse and subtle complexity. Elegant enough for special occasions, but approachable enough to remind you why Champagne remains the drink of celebration.
